Caring for your manchester

Feeding Basics

Manchester Terriers need a high quality diet. We prefer Purina Pro Plan foods, though we do not recommend their Shredded Blends as the soy flakes they use as flavoring do not help high metabolism breeds like Manchesters hold their weight.

These food picture below are ones are ones we prefer, thought some Manchesters can have an allergy to chicken that isn’t something we’ve noticed in our family of dogs.

If you choose not to use not to feed Purina Pro Plan, Purina ONE also has a salmon protein based food, but any high quality dog food will suffice for your Manchester.

House Training and Litter Boxes

We have used the Puppy Culture program to raise our puppies and part of that of that program is litter box training baby puppies. As such your puppy will willing use a litter box and it is a great tool to use should you choose to do so while you are house training your puppy.

If you take a small portion of the litter we will send with your puppy place it in your yard the let your puppy smell that litter it will teach the puppy this is the area you would like them to use to "go potty".

Litter boxes are also an equally useful tools in times of inclement weather, or while traveling.

Coat Care

Manchester’s coat is a stiff hair that is set shallowly in their skin. Anything that rubs against them regularly, such as a collar or jacket, will rub their fur off.

For this reason, we suggest rolled leather collars or biothane collars for daily wear to hold tags. Since your Manchester has a smaller head than neck for walking your Manchester, we recommend martingale collars. Martingale dog collars are also known as greyhound, whippet collars.

Martingale collars are designed with two loops, the larger loop is slipped onto the dog’s neck, and a lead is then clipped to the smaller circle. When the dog tries to pull, the tension on the leash pulls the small loop taut, which makes the large loop smaller and tighter on the neck, thus preventing escape. Properly fitted, the collar will be comfortably loose whenever the dog is not pulling against the leash.
Manchesters have a high prey drive and are built for speed.
They should NEVER be trusted off-lead.
